The Perks of Being a Wallflower was the third most-challenged book of 2024, according to ALA, with 35 formal challenges. It was the third most-banned book in schools in the 2023-2024 school year, with 85 bans across 11 states. Challenges include claims of being sexually explicit, LGBTQIA+ content, depiction of sexual assault, depiction of drug use, and profanity. 

Join us as we discuss this as a work of literature as well as an object of censorship. Discussion led by Librarian Rebecca Harlow.
