Flamer was tied with Maia Kobabe’s Gender Queer as the most banned book in PEN America’s Index of School Book Bans, Fall 2022. It has been singled out by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the book banning group Moms for Liberty, whose concerns include that it contains “alternate sexualities.”
Join us as we discuss this as a work of literature as well as an object of censorship. Discussion led by Librarian Rebecca Harlow.
Copies are available at the Circulation Desk. Registration is required.
It's the summer between middle school and high school, and Aiden Navarro is away at camp. Everyone's going through changes--but for Aiden, the stakes feel higher. As he navigates friendships, deals with bullies, and spends time with Elias (a boy he can't stop thinking about), he finds himself on a path of self-discovery and acceptance.
